EMIM 2024 Porto

EMIM 2024 Porto

From March 12-15, 2024 the 19th European Molecular Imaging Meeting (EMIM 2024) took place in Alfândega Congress Centre in Porto, Portugal. This international conference was dedicated to molecular imaging. Approximately 1,100 participants attended the conference.

The program included 345 lectures and 510 poster presentations, covering the latest advancements in morphological, functional, and molecular imaging. Topics ranged from mass spectrometry and microscopy to non-invasive imaging, including PET and fluorescence imaging, in both preclinical and early clinical research phases. Additionally, new strategies for image-guided therapy and theranostics were presented.

During the conference, research results were shared by staff and doctoral students from the Department of Medical Physics (led by Prof. Ewa Stępień) and the Department of Experimental Particle Physics, including the J-PET group (led by Prof. Paweł Moskal). Some of these activities were recognized and awarded by the organizers and participants of EMIM.

We returned from the conference with two awards:

1. Dr. Magdalena Skalska received the Study Group Student Award in Mass Spectrometry for her oral presentation on the selected abstract in the "Mass Spectrometry Imaging" session. The presentation was titled:

   - "Imaging And ToF-SIMS Examination of Urinary Extracellular Vesicles from Patients with Type 1 Diabetes to Determine Symptoms of Diabetic Kidney Disease"
   - Authors: Magdalena E. Skalska

2. Manish Das was awarded for the best poster in the PET, SPECT & Hybrid Technologies category. The winning poster was titled:

-"Developing Positronium Imaging Technique for the Liver Phantom Using Modular J-PET; Manish Das, Sushil Sharma

Ermias Beyene delivered an oral presentation in the Image Acquisition & Reconstruction session. The topic was:

Dual-Isotope Image Reconstruction With a Multi-Photon Modular J-PET Scanner; Ermias Y. Beyene, Ewa Ł. Stępień, Paweł Moskal

We presented 7 posters with the results of our research on extracellular vesicles (EVs) and positronium imaging from the J-PET group
